Computer Classes at Branch Libraries

Registration Procedures

Registration for free computer classes will be conducted on a week by week basis. A valid JGRLS library card is required at class time. Registration will open on Monday each week at 9:00 a.m. for the following week classes (unless it is a holiday). Customers who wish to take a course may register in person at the Branch where the class will be held or by calling the phone number listed for each branch.

Introduction to Microsoft Word
To include getting started on the computer, using Windows, mouse and keyboard basics, using Word, creating documents, editing, printing, saving.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel
To include creating and editing an Excel spreadsheet, entering formulas, creating charts, printing and saving a worksheet.

Have you heard of twitter? Still don't have it?. This class will help you develop an understanding of what Twitter is and how to use it. In addition, participants will go through the steps to create their own Twitter account and send a tweet!
NOTE: Valid email account required – you WILL NEED your email name and password!

Beginning Web Page Design
Create your own basic webpage using Weebly. Limited to 8 participants with some computer use experience!
*Bring your User Name and Password for email, facebook, instagram or other accounts containing pictures or content which may be used on your webpage.

Google it! Google is more than a search engine! Need a map? Want to see a satellite image from anywhere in the world? What time is it in South Africa? Connect with friends! Images and videos, books, translations, Google Docs and more! Where is traffic backed up and why? Comparison shopping – where is it and who has the best deal? Get beyond Google’s main page and learn what this powerful search tool has to offer!

Skype Demonstration
Demonstration to include using Skype, a software that allows you to instant message and make voice and video calls to fellow Skype users on the internet for free. It really is the free 'picture phone' you used to imagine! Learn all the FREE ways you can share with those who matter to you using Skype. Feel free to bring your own laptop or iPad or tablet. Even international calls are free with Skype!

Introduction to POWERPOINT
You can easily create professional looking presentations using PowerPoint. Come learn the basics of creating and showing a presentation. It is fun and easy to look like a pro!

Introduction to the Internet
Beginner Class – To include searching the internet, Internet security, and getting connected.
Learn to find pictures, people, information, videos, shop and lots more!

Did you just download the latest update? Do you own an iPad? Have an iPhone? Thinking about getting one? Bring your iPad or iPhone and join the hands-on fun, or just come to watch and learn! Learn what an iPad and iPhone can do and manage and use apps!

eBay & PayPal
eBay is the world's online marketplace; a place for buyers and sellers to come together and trade almost anything. We will cover what is out there, how to register and get started, how to bid and buy, how to list an item and sell, and managing and protecting your account. PayPal is used to make and receive payments on eBay and other sites. A valid e-mail account is necessary to use eBay and PayPal.
