East Central Library Friends announces winning entries in the Annual Cooking Contest

The Annual East Central Public Library cooking contest was held Tuesday, December 4, in the library meeting room in Hurley.

The contest, which features cash prizes, is sponsored by the East Central Friends of the Library as a fund-raising event. Contestants are asked to submit samples and recipes of their best holiday treats for judging. Items will be judged on taste, originality and presentation. All proceeds will be used by the Friends to improve local library service.

Guest Judges included (r to l): Linda Branning - Pascagoula Library staff, Lori Smith - Pascagoula Library manager, and Yvonne Parton - Vancleave Library manager, next to branch manager Helen Barlow.

As in the past, the library is offering great cash prizes donated by local financial institutions and businesses. The grand prize winner will receive $100.

Teen winners were:

Two adult categories, one for sweets (cakes, pies, cookies, etc.) and one for treats (salads, finger sandwiches, etc.). Top winners in each of the adult categories (ages 18 and up) received $50 for first place, $30 for second place and $20 for third place.

Winners for the Youth and a Children's sweets division received $25 for first place, $15 for second place, and $10 for third place.

The public festivities will begin at 3:30 p.m. Following the awarding of prizes, the public is invited to taste the winning entries for a donation of just $1. The public is invited to a performance by the East Central High School show choir.
