Assistant Director for Branch Services and Human Resources –

Jackson-George Regional Library System (MS)

JGRLS is an innovative and accomplished Gulf Coast library system with outstanding levels of service and effective resource sharing. The Library System (headquartered in Pascagoula, MS), seeks an experienced Assistant Library Director to plan, implement, and evaluate outstanding customer service in all branches of the system, as well as direct personnel and hiring for the system.  JGRLS is comprised of eight public libraries in two counties providing access to excellent library services for 160,000+ gulf coast residents.   With a $5 million annual budget and 93 FTE system staff, JGRLS is a patron-focused organization with a reputation for providing professional development for administration, trustees and staff, and strong outreach services to its diverse patron base including support for innovative technologies.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director for Branch Services and Human Resources serves under the general direction of the Library Director and has overall responsibility for customer service, new and existing staff training, and human resources. The Assistant Director supervises professional and paraprofessional staff and works with the Director, branch managers, administrative staff and other stakeholders to maintain services for the System aligning its mission with patron and community needs and priorities.

Qualifications: An ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science; and a minimum of 3-5 years of post MLS experience including 3 years of which must have been in an administrative capacity. Essential attributes and skills include: vision, creativity, energy and enthusiasm; superior written and oral communications skills; meaningful public library experience; flexibility; collaborative and consensus-building skills; experience in mentoring, evaluating and retaining an excellent staff; and a desire to continue the tradition of excellence and innovation within the System. Compensation: The hiring salary range is $50,000-$60,000 (placement being dependent on experience and qualifications) with an excellent benefits package.

Work is performed in accordance with Regional Library Board of Trustees' approved policies and procedures and other directives as issued by the Branch Manager and Director.

All employees are expected to possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to complete all assigned duties and responsibilities.
