Library System honors Volunteers at Annual Awards Reception with Rebecca Powers

The Jackson-George Regional Library System will honor library volunteers at the 29th Annual Volunteer Reception at the Pascagoula Public Library on Thursday, February 18. Special guest speaker will be news journalist Rebecca Powers.

Along with a luncheon, the volunteers from the eight branch libraries will receive a certificate recognizing their service to the library and door prizes provided by the libraries.

Awards were presented to the following: Rita Krebs Genealogy Volunteer of the Year - PN-CHS Archive and Historical Committee; the Mary Ann Louviere Youth Services Volunteer of the Year - (tie) Jahkai Garrett from Pascagoula, and Taylor Coe from East Central. The Flora S. Scholtes Volunteer of the Year was presented to Doris Spicer from Pascagoula.

A new for this year is the Community Partner of the Year award presented to the River City Quilters in Moss Point. This award is presented to the group or organization volunteering time in the branch libraries for projects, programs, or services to the public.

“Volunteers donated over 11,900 hours of service to the library system for 2015 and is the equivalent of about six full-time employees,” said library director Lori Barnes. “We couldn’t do what we do without them,” she said.
