Let's Be Friends... Want to be in the center of things...where all the action is? Then you want to be at your local public library - the center of cultural, civic and fun events in our community! And to be at the center, you'll want to join the Friends.
Who are the Friends? The Friends of the Library are in reality, the library's lagniappe - that "little something extra!"
Join us today - Click here, send us a note and specify which branch you use. You'll need to include your name, address, and branch you wish to join. Our public library needs your support if it is to remain the truly exceptional library that it is!
What does a Friends group do? Friends are civic-minded citizens, who know that any community becomes a better community when its libraries are improved.
They lobby for and help raise funds to support enhancement and expansion of public library services. They host book sales, musical programs, cultural gatherings and specialized workshops for the community.
Many Friends work directly with the Library staff as volunteers, helping deliver library services on a personal, one-to-one basis. Others work to insure that all segments of the community get the maximum benefit from the public library by staging community and civic programs at the library. Still, other members of the Friends may wish to take on specific projects within the library depending on where there is a particular need.
Most of all, though, Friends stand ready to volunteer their time, talents, funds, and influence when needed, to promote, improve and expand library services - and to improve the quality of life in their communities.
Wouldn't you like to be our Friend?
Why should I join the Friends? Our library can - and should - touch the life of every member or our community, from the preschooler to the senior citizen, from the disabled to the gifted. Without your support and help that just isn't possible. The library needs you on its team. That team already includes our staff and trustees. But, we really need Friends.
With you on our team, we gain a valuable ally in our quest to reach a common goal - making our public library the best it can be. If you want to share in that goal, we want you on the team.
What are my responsibilities? That's up to you. We want you to be as involved in the Friends - and in your library - as you want to be. Meetings are held monthly, special events are organized throughout the year, and some projects are ongoing. But you decide for yourself what your participation will be.
You may choose to support the group by joining, but not participating actively - you may want to attend the meetings, but not serve on any committee or work group - or you may choose to become totally involved - standing for office, serving on committees or directing projects. Whatever the role you choose, you will be welcomed and appreciated!
Now isn't that just the perfect Friendship? |
