2. ASSISTANT
DIRECTOR—St. Amant
a. Building Maintenance Help Desk – Building
maintenance and help desk tickets are now going to Cheryl Rupp, Purchasing and
to Alisa. This should help speed up
the monitoring with two people checking it. The time is wrong on the website and OS
Ticket is trying to resolve it now.
b. TV Monitor & Cable Drop Help Tickets – If
you havenŐt turned in a building maintenance ticket for your cable you need to
turn one in so that we can proceed with getting your cable installed. If there are any problems that you are
aware of, please state that on the ticket.
c.
Patron Initiated
ILL Requests and NCIP – TLC and Autographics performed NCIP testing on
Monday, November 12. The testing
was successful and as soon as we are ready, Autographics will turn NCIP
on. Once it is turned on, Branch
staff will need to be aware that ILL procedures will change slightly: patrons who wish to use ILL services
will need to have a valid library card and registered in Agent. A decision will have to be made as to
who will register ILL patrons. It
was suggested that ILL training could be conducted on December 12 prior to the
Holiday lunch.
3. AGENDA ITEMS
a. Staff Development and Training:
Beatty
á Additional
Training for LS2 PAC – Carol wanted me to poll the managers to see if any
additional training was needed for the LS2 Pac. It was requested to send the video
webinar on the LS2 Pac to the managerŐs to use and then to train staff.
b. East Central Library Branch
Manager: Barlow
á Jackson County
Fair - The JGRLS booth
at the Jackson County Fair was quite successful. Staff and volunteers worked at
the booth for a total of 170 hours and 3836 people stopped by during the week.
All branches participated with staffing and providing candy to hand out to
passers-by. Rex did an outstanding job of signage for the booth as well as
keeping stock of flyers and bookmarks to give away. We are already making plans
for the next year with only minor changes in view. If you have recommendations
for the upcoming year, please let Rex or Helen know.
c. St. Martin Library
Branch Manager: Zuleeg
á Money Smart
Week - This is a great partnership
with the American Library Association and involves collaboration with a trusted
partner, the Federal Reserve Bank.
Any local business can join forces with the library to present a Money
Smart Week. Here, the emphasis is
on various aspects of financial plans or
events that can save our customers money. Examples include retirement planning,
budgeting (adults, even children and teens), smart investing, Medicare and
Social Security programs, credit card basics, and coupon and rebate
workshops. Other programs, such as
Bunny Money and Piggy Bank Savings, are directed toward Money Smart Kids. All programs are in conjunction with
National Library Week in April. In
2012, there were 250 libraries in 38 states that participated in Smart Money
Week; the numbers and states are anticipated to double in 2013. To participate, the library must
register and sign up with ALA at www.moneysmartweek.org. The website lists available programs and
resources. In addition, there are
downloadable logos and promotional materials. Your commitment is to hold a minimum of
one program during that week and report on it to the ALA. The only
participating library in our state is Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
in Gautier, and the librarian, Angie Balius, deemed
their programs overwhelming successes.
She had one event on financial management for faculty and another on
handling money for students. The
program that interests me the most is Shred Day. This involves having a commercial
shredder, actually a shredding truck, in the library parking lot for one
day. Mr. Dowling said that in all
cases to date, the shredding truck has been donated, and the payback is from
other people seeing the logos on the truck and arranging rentals. In some instances, the police department
will have an escort for the truck when it moves to a new library location the
next day. Police and Fire
Departments have been supportive.
This is a free service of the library in conjunction with ALA and
National Library Week in support of Smart Money Week. I am interested in
possibly providing a Shred Day at St. Martin Library. Other libraries in our system may
want to participate, and if so, I will be happy to do the legwork and also the
necessary documentation for ALA.
d. Technical Services: Woods
á
Discarding – Due to receipt of a multitude of Holiday materials and
new items in the Technical Services Department, all discarding will resume in
January 2013. Please do not weed
materials until further notice.
Feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns.
