Friends of the East Central Library rewarded 5th and 6th grade students who where picked for writing Thanksgiving essays in a contest recently. Ribbons were awarded at a special luncheon for them and their parents sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Winners reading were, front row left, 5th grade; 1st place - Courtney Duncan, 2nd - Joy Marble, 3rd - Clayton Caver, 6th grade; 1st - Lindsey Johnson, 2nd - Morgan Hamilton, 3rd - Reagan Holder, and back row East Central teachers Debbie Smith, Annette Spiriti, and Patty Webb. Winners not pictured are Gabbie Moody, Mitzi McCowan, Katie Freeman, Michael Edwards, McKenna Ahlberg, and Savannah Sellers. Essays will be on display at the library through the month of November. Library youth services assistant, MIcki Lofton, said, "Students were encouraged to express their appreciation for anyone; a parent, grandparent, coach, teacher, church member, anyone who helped them to grow and made a difference in their lives." Students where able to build self esteem for themselves, exercise their creative writing abilities, and show appreciation in a positive manner for the things around them. |
