JGRLS honors Library Volunteers for 2009 - 2010

The Jackson-George Regional Library System recently celebrated local library volunteers at the 25th Annual Volunteer Reception at the Pascagoula Public Library.

Along with a reception, the volunteers from the eight branch libraries received a certificate recognizing their service to the library and had chances to win door prizes provided by each library and local businesses. Volunteers of the Year photos (click here).

"Volunteers donated over 12,496 hours of service to the library system for 2009 - 2010 and the hours represent about six full-time employees," said library director Carol Hewlett. "We couldn't do what we do without them," she said.

Top volunteers who gave the most hours in three categories this year were; Teen Volunteer of the Year: Tony Wheeler (Lucedale), "Rita Krebs" Genealogy Volunteer of the Year: Robert Jennings (Moss Point/Pascagoula), and "Flora S. Scholtes" Volunteer of the Year: Doris Spicer (Pascagoula).

Robert Jennings was honored for donating a large collection of Carver High School memorabilia.  The collection includes several school annuals, senior class photographs, football programs, and other items representing the history of this historic black Pascagoula High School. All items are available for viewing at the Pascagoula Public Library Genealogy and Local History department.
